I Gave My Love A Cherry (also known as the Riddle Song) is an English folksong from the 15th century. It was preserved by settlers to the American Appalachians. When I was arranging it Brahms' Lullaby (Wiegenlied) kept popping into my head so I decided to combine the two lullabies.

Lyrics

I gave my love a cherry without a stone
I gave my love a chicken without a bone
I gave my love a story without an end
I gave my love a baby with no cryin'

How can there be a cherry without a stone?
How can there be a chicken without a bone?
How can there be a story without an end?
How can there be a baby with no cryin'

A cherry when it's bloomin' it has no stone
A chicken when it's pippin’ it has no bone
The story of I love you it has no end
A baby when it's sleeping there's no cryin’
